Mahadi Mosia Recognised for Education and Skills Development at BRICS Women’s Startup Contest 2025
On 5 July 2025, our founder and Executive Director, Mahadi Mosia, was announced as one of the 18 global winners of the BRICS Women’s Startup Contest 2025, held during the BRICS Business Forum in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Mahadi was awarded in the Education and Skills Development category for her work through LiftUp Learning PTY LTD, an AI-powered academic support and entrepreneurship training platform serving under-resourced learners in public schools, townships, and child-headed households.
Out of more than 1,000 applications from BRICS countries and partners, only 18 women-led startups were selected — with Mahadi as the sole South African winner in her category.
Innovation That Centres the Margins
LiftUp Learning was built with one question in mind: What if the learner at the back of the classroom — with no data, no support, and no confidence — could still succeed?
The platform offers low-data, mobile-first academic support aligned with South Africa’s CAPS and IEB curricula. It provides learners with:
- Instant AI-based academic help
- Offline access for data-restricted users
- Multilingual support
- Digital skills and entrepreneurship training
The recognition from BRICS affirms what we already know: our communities don’t lack potential — they lack access. Mahadi’s work is about restoring that access, and doing so with dignity, relevance, and technology that meets learners where they are.
“This win isn’t just personal — it’s collective. It’s for every learner figuring things out alone, every girl in STEM, every township innovator who refuses to give up. We built LiftUp for them.”
— Mahadi Mosia
Celebrating Women Building Bold Futures
We also celebrate the 17 other global winners across the categories of:
- Health & Well-being
- Agriculture & Food Security
- Energy & Infrastructure
- Trade & Digital Transformation
- Sustainability & Climate Solutions
From India to Brazil, China to Russia, these women are not waiting to be included — they’re creating what’s missing.
What Happens Next?
With the recognition from BRICS, LiftUp Learning PTY LTD enters a new season of national growth. A broader rollout across schools and provinces is underway, along with new facilitator training, school partnerships, and post-award global engagements through the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance.
Mahadi’s win is not just a milestone — it’s momentum.
We Celebrate This Moment
At Ntate Jane Foundation, we stand firmly behind this moment as a victory not just for Mahadi, but for every young person our work touches. From Kathorus to Rio — we are reminded that powerful things grow in overlooked places.
This is only the beginning.
